So, …
whose blog is this anyway?
My name is Dmitriy Ofenbakh. Photography has been a hobby of mine for many years now. And lately I’ve decided to put my skills to a test and become a true professional photographer. Short of my aspirations, I’m an amateur just like you. And everything I’ve learned over the years was by talking to other photographers, experimenting in the studio, and taking some formal courses. If you are interested in finding out more about how to take better pictures, see my Digital Photography for Beginners workshop.
What is AskPhotoGuy.com is all about? In a few words – It’s an answer to every photography question I’ve ever received. Ever since digital cameras became popular, I’ve been a go to guy for many of my friends who were new to photography and became proud owners of a shiny new digital camera. The first questions invariably being: “Which camera is better?”, “Why is my camera takes pictures that look different from yours?”, and invariably “So what should I do?”. And after hearing same questions over and over again, I’ve decided to put together a blog. A blog which I can use to share my experiences with various photography techniques, great locations, and camera equipment. A place to share my knowledge, and learn something new myself.
I have many favorite quotes that represent the great photographic principles that I cherish.
“All good things come to those who wait.” – A common American idiom.
Sometimes you need to wait for that perfect shot.
“Carpe diem” (Seize the day) – Horace
Sometimes you need to act fast, or the shot will be gone.
“The sun doesn’t always shine.” – Daniel J. Cox
Sometimes when nothing goes according to plan, you find something new, unique, and interesting.
And last but not least
“There is nothing worse than a sharp image of a fuzzy concept.” – Ansel Adams
Don’t make snapshots, tell a story.
